Deftones, System of a Down Announce Special One-Night Show in San Francisco
Talk about a hell of a surprise, but it’s looking like Deftones and System of a Down are going to play a one-off, stand alone show at Golden Gate Park’s Polo Field in San Francisco later this summer. It’s a bit of exciting news that doesn’t necessarily mean there’s some grander plan for a tour or anything — just two bands getting together and putting on a show.
Set to take place on August 17 from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., the concert will include opening acts The Mars Volta, Viagra Boys, and Vowws. According to organizers, this will be the park’s first after-dark concert ever approved by the city. Allen Scott, President of Concerts and Festivals at Another Planet Entertainment, said it was an exciting proposition to not only bring those bands together, but to do it in such a beautiful part of SF.
“We are excited to be bringing such an iconic lineup to the city and what better venue than Golden Gate Park. We are expecting fans from not just the Bay Area but from across the US and internationally to travel to the city injecting money into the local economy. From hotels to local restaurants and everything in between, this will be a great night of music and a great economic boost for the city.”
Not only is this a special event because of the location, but it’s also special because it’s looking like it’s System of a Down’s only 2024 show outside of the Sick New World festival in Las Vegas.
Tickets for the show will start at $169 for general admission, with the VIP package coming with a hefty $400 price tag, though that will come with some great extras including and up-front VIP viewing area with dedicated bars, access to a VIP lounge, access to bleacher seating, and faster entry options.
Tickets will go on sale to the general public via Ticketmaster or the Golden Gate Park Concerts website this Friday, April 12 at 10 a.m. PST/1 p.m. EST, with artist pre-sales kicking off tomorrow at that same time.
