Letallis Tackles the Classic Tale of The Arabian Nights with “A Thousand and One Nights”
When it comes to Middle Eastern folktales, few have stood the test of time like One Thousand and One Nights has. Known by us westerners as Arabian Nights, it’s a tale of betrayal, infidelity, action, intrigue… it’s huge and sprawling as the tales Scheherazade tells the king.
Earlier today, New York City-based musician Jake Calonius released the first of multiple new singles for his EP A Thousand And One Nights — Chapter 1, titled “A Thousand And One Nights.” This new project marries a more progressive death metal sound with Middle Eastern sensibilities, creating a sound that flits between vast and epic passages and truly brutal phrases, complete with crushing vocals and blast beats driving things forward.
According to Calonius, the rest of the EP will be released over time, with each passing month getting a new single.
“In the heart of New York City’s vibrant music scene, metal band Letallis unveils their latest work, “A Thousand And One Nights – Chapter 1.” Led by creator and frontman Jake Calonius, the band’s new EP showcases an ongoing musical evolution and storytelling prowess. Recorded in Jake’s Brooklyn home studio, each of the EP’s five tracks draws inspiration from the enchanting tales of the Arabian Nights. With melodic passages filled with intimate moments and aggressive movements, Letallis invites listeners on a journey through time and imagination, promising an immersive experience that melds their metal sound with elements of folklore and narrative.
“Like a Russian doll of storytelling, this EP is a journey within a journey, with ‘A Thousand And One Nights’ serving as the central frame story that sets the stage for the tales that follow. This will be the first E.P. in a series of 3, all conceptual based around the Arabian Nights. I look forward to sharing these stories with everyone”
