Dream Theater Finished Writing the New Album, Drums Completely Tracked
Oh man, do you hear that? It’s the hype train barrelling towards all of us because we’re getting closer and closer to new Dream Theater tunes. Ever since Mike Portnoy rejoined the band last October, there’s been a level of excitement surrounding the fact that they were immediately getting to work on a new album.
Just moments ago, guitarist John Petrucci and Portnoy uploaded a video they filmed this past Saturday to the official Dream Theater social media accounts announcing that they’ve reached a major milestone for the new album.
In the clip below, titled “Grey Beards and Writing Sessions,” both men revealed that not only is the band done writing the new songs for the album, but Portnoy’s also done tracking his drum parts. Drums are usually the first thing to be laid down in the album recording process (not always, but it’s generally a good idea to lay down the rhythms first), so this means they’ve made great progress. In the video, Portnoy said he was excited about the work that’s been done so far.
“I could not be more psyched. It freaking came out so amazing, I’m so excited. Cannot wait to unleash this.”
Petrucci followed up by simply saying to fans that they “have no clue what’s about to happen” with a smile and a laugh.
