Clown Says Slipknot Will Release New Music This Year, But Probably Not a New Album
A lot has already gone down in the Slipknot camp this year, what with them kicking out drummer Jay Weinberg and most recently teasing his replacement. But during a recent interview with Knotfest Australia (transcribed by our friends over at Metal Injection), M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan let slip that the band’s got even more lined up for 2024.
Remember, this year is the band’s 25th anniversary of the release of their 1999 self-titled album, so there was always going to be something big planned for 2024. And while the band’s been very slow with revealing what those plans may be, Crahan makes it sound like fans should expect some new music and some live performances ranging from the very large to the ridiculously intimate.
“I’m very excited for what we have done. We’re really working hard and you know, there’ll be new music, there’ll be new masks, there’ll be new people, there’ll be new ideas celebrating a 25 year anniversary. I would imagine there’d be some shows that could be 200 people, 500 people, 700 people, 2,000 people.”
As for that talk about “new music,” Crahan made sure to clarify exactly what he meant about that in a bid to temper fans’ expectations. (Look Outside Your Window, anyone?)
“I wouldn’t look at it like new music like, an album and stuff. I think we’re gonna have some fun. I don’t know exactly what we’re trying to do. I know that we just want to do what we want to do, so however it happens, it happens. We’re not going to push it and we’re not going to mold it into something that it doesn’t need to be, but I will tell you we’re having a really good time right now. Some real magical stuff is happening.”
