Burton C. Bell’s Debut Single “Anti-Droid” Has Nothing to Do With Apple

Former Fear Factory vocalist Burton C. Bell is throwing himself back into the music world with a new track titled “Anti-Droid.” No, it’s not an advertisement for the new iPhone or anything, but rather it’s the start to a new solo music effort that sees Bell making dark and moody sci-fi tinged tunes.

Calling his style a “defiant statement delivered with a confident bombast,” Bell said the new track was a big ol’ middle finger to the systems in place that hold people back.

“‘Anti-Droid’ is a statement about breaking free. Breaking the bonds of what I felt was a prison in many ways. Not just financially or contractually but creatively, as well. I felt constrained to this format we’d written ourselves into. The ‘factory’ doesn’t have a capital F. It’s the factory of the music industry, a certain form of business, and priorities. Being a slave to an established way of thinking is not really freedom. I am moving forward.”

Now, I may be looking into this far too much, but when he says “the ‘factory’ doesn’t have a capital F,” I could take that statement at face value… or I could see it as a subtle dig to his former band, Fear Factory.

Bell quit Fear Factory back in 2020 before burning that bridge even further by saying he never wanted to rejoin the band.

Having shifted his focus in recent years to other forms of art, Bell said he’s coming back to music and doing things his way. That means only surrounding himself with the individuals he wants to work and not having to compromise for shit.

“I’m starting my solo career. I’m working with different producers and co-songwriters, making music that I love, with full control of the music and creative direction.”

We’re sure there will be more solo music coming from Bell pretty soon. As for the unannounced solo shows he hinted at last year, we’ll see when that crops up as well. Only time will tell.
