Defectum Omnium (Nuclear Blast)
Louisiana’s own Exhorder is back again with a new slab of badass groove metal with Defectum Omnium. It’s their first new album in five years and as our review says, it fuckin’ slaps.
Gost
Prophecy (Metal Blade Records)
Yet another highly reviewed release, Gost’s Prophecy is a cathartic darksynth behemoth that smashes the high production value of modern synthwave with a dark goth sound and aesthetic. Gost claims to “exist in the dark crack between black metal and the most shadowy end of electronic music,” and this release totally embodies that.
Judas Priest
Invincible Shield (Sony Music)
I mean, what is there to say? It’s Judas fuckin Priest. It’s one of the most anticipated album releases of the year and it doesn’t disappoint. While we wait for the review to come in, I’ll say this — if you liked Firepower and enjoy Turbo, you’re going to absolutely love Invincible Shield.
Midnight
Hellish Expectations (Metal Blade Records)
One-man band Midnight are back with another grimy, straightforward slab of new tunes with Hellish Expectations. As we said in our review, this new release is for those that “like their metal raw and ripping, stripped back with zero pretense.” If that sounds like you, check this one out.
Skeletal Remains
Fragments of the Ageless (Century Media Records)
Cannibalism, death, doom — all central themes explored in Skeletal Remains’ latest release. Rather than tell you what this one’s about, just know that it’s an absolute ripper and we had the band go down the “man eats man” rabbit hole.
