Matt Pike Kept His Shirt on Long Enough to Film High On Fire’s “Burning Down” Video
To say there’s a metric fuckton of excitement brewing behind High on Fire‘s upcoming album Cometh The Storm would be putting it lightly. It would be the understatement of the year and it’s only the beginning of March. The level of anticipation behind the band’s follow up to the GRAMMY-winning Electric Messiah might be a bit too high, to be honest.
Ever since they released their debut single off the album “Burning Down,” it’s been on a pretty steady rotation in the MetalSucks bungalow. And while the single had a regrettably AI-generated video for the announcement, the guys decided to double dip on the track and release an official studio video showing themselves playing the track.
The video was filmed by Jason Zucco during the recording process of the new album at GodCity Studio in Salem, Massachusetts and includes footage of Pike laying down vocals for the track. It’s just zero frills, really.
Speaking of the single, bassist Jeff Matz said it feels a lot like early High On Fire, but that it also showed how the band has grown over time.
“‘Burning Down’ kicks off with a classic Pike riff. I think this song harkens back to the early High On Fire sound, but infused with fresh, new elements. It has a killer groove that you can really sink into. The body of the song took shape in our PNW rehearsal space, and we came up with the bridge/solo section and finalized the arrangement while we were at GodCity. Kurt Ballou’s input as a producer was also hugely helpful. His keen ears and fresh perspective were invaluable in making this album.”
