Ihsahn Shares the “Teenager Black Metal Spirit” That Inspires His Work

Artistry does not exist in a vacuum. Ask any of today’s most awe-inspiring creatives and they’ll say the same thing — it was an individual piece of art or some other outside stimulus that pushed them to pursue their passions and create.

Take the incredibly talented Ihashn, for example. Known around the world for his work in Emperor, it’s been his solo work as of late that’s shown us the breadth and depth of his strength as a musician and composer. With his most recent self-titled album having blown us away, we sat caught up with him to find out more about the man behind the music. More specifically, we wanted to learn what songs or lyrics continue to inspire his work.
