Tom Araya’s Wife “Harrassed” Him Into Reuniting Slayer
When it was announced last week that Slayer was coming back for a pair of shows this year (though let’s be real… there will be more), naturally people were curious as to how this all went down. Remember, this was only a few days after guitarist Kerry King said he hadn’t spoken to vocalist/bassist Tom Araya since 2019.
It seems like we got our answer, as Araya’s wife Sandra took to social media to claim that she was the lynchpin for this entire thing going down. According to her, all it took was a year or so of… motivation.
“Let’s clarify for the trolls: Tom was done with playing. I have harassed him for over a year. He agreed FINALLY. We shared that news with Slayer‘s awesome managers and they did the rest! So yes without Tom it wouldn’t have happened.. without me BUGGING HIM it wouldn’t have happened. But go ahead with your drama! I however will be enjoying a few shows and I’m thankful he loves me and the fans enough to do this.”
Slayer in 2024 is comprised of the exact same lineup they had back in 2019. Araya returns as the bass playing frontman, King’s on guitar, Gary Holt is back on guitar, and Paul Bostaph will return as the band’s drummer.
As for Slayer spouses, Sandra Araya wasn’t the only one to comment on the band’s return. Shortly after the announcement was made, Gary Holt‘s wife Lisa said the solution for haters was simple: “don’t go.”
Slayer is scheduled to play Chicago’s Riot Fest on September 22 and Louisville’s Louder Than Life on September 27, marking the band’s first shows since the end of their final world tour five years ago. Since then, things have been largely radio silent, though Kerry King both said he was pissed the band hung it up and that he was working on his recently revealed solo project.
When the Slayer return was announced, Tom Araya said he was excited to get back to the stage with his bandmates, which was honestly the most we’d heard from the guy in five years.
“Nothing compares to the 90 minutes when we’re on stage playing live, sharing that intense energy with our fans, and to be honest, we have missed that.
