LISTEN TO DAWNBRINGER
Nucleus is not Dawnbringer’s first album, but because I’m a no good stoopid dumb shit, it’s the first time I’ve heard them. In my defense, I just checked my “Reader’s Choice” e-mail folder, and none of you ever wrote to tell me how awesome they are. (What, you expect me to just know this shit myself?) And in your defense, a press release from Profound Lore refers to Dawnbringer as “one of the best American metal bands you haven’t heard,” so I guess all parties involved are aware that the band isn’t exactly famous.
But assuming the rest of their output is as good as Nucleus, they probably should be.
Seriously, this album rules. I guess the easy comparison would be a band like High on Fire, but, luckily, I don’t have to make any easy comparisons, ’cause the band is giving away an mp3 of the song “Swing Hard.” In fact, I don’t really feel the need to get all critic-y with this shit at all, ’cause if this song doesn’t get you interested, than no fancy schmancy prose is gonna do any better.
DAWNBRINGER, “SWING HARD”
Pretty rockin’ stuff, right? It’s the right mix of proggy and dirty and head-bobby and epic and punch your grandmother in the back of the head.
And the whole album is this good. Really.
Nucleus came out yesterday. I don’t know why you’re still reading this and not buying it right now.
