Pantera Performed “Floods” Live for the First Time in 23 Years
Say what you will about Pantera and their existence in 2024, but for long-time fans of the iconic groove metal outfit, their long list of live dates are a perfect storm of nostalgia. As they’re currently ripping through the latest leg of their North American tour, the band trotted out a classic track for the first time in more than two decades as they played “Floods” at a show this past Saturday.
Their “For The Fans. For The Brothers. For Legacy” tour has been bringing back a lot of good memories, and in Sunrise, Florida, they played dark and brooding track from 1996’s The Great Southern Trendkill. Thankfully, someone filmed the song and we’ve got the footage below.
While the track may not be the most bombastic or punch-in-the-face worthy, “Floods” takes a special distinction in Pantera’s catalog as having what might be the best solo ever written by “Dimebag” Darrel Lance Abbott. And before you ask, yes Zakk Wylde fucking nailed it, so you don’t have to worry. You can check for yourself at about 4:25 below.
The tour is hitting the Amalie Arena in Tampa, FL today and wrapping up February 27 in Quebec City, QB at Centre Vidéotron. They are joined on select dates by Lamb of God, Nest, Snafu, and Child Bite.
Lately, although Pantera have been killing it on the live circuit, vocalist Phil Anselmo decided to address that he felt despite the haters, the band are justified in keeping the music going.
In an interview with the official Metallica podcast, The Metallica Report, he said:
“Only thing I can say is, man, I know for a damn fact Vince and Dime would want us to do this, hands down. They would want the Pantera brand or the legacy to go on. And I don’t know what you believe in, but sometimes, you know, you would like to think that them old fellas are looking down on us, giving us the thumbs-up.”
Regardless of any criticism from folks who don’t like that Pantera are still playing, fans are definitely stoked each time they get to hear a deep cut like this one for the first time in years.
