This Footage of Alice In Chains Playing “No Excuses” During a Soundcheck is Peak ’90s
This past Thursday marked the 30th anniversary of Alice In Chains‘ phenomenal EP Jar of Flies, so naturally the band’s been taking a bit of a stroll down memory lane as they try to sell commemorative merch along the way.
Posting things like promotional photos and behind the scenes looks at the creation of the EP’s cover art, the Seattle-based band is giving fans a chance to see what went into the mid-90s gem. Most importantly, however, is the newly unearthed footage of the band running through “No Excuses” prior to playing it live for the first time ever.
According to the band, the footage was taken at the Hollywood Palladium on January 7, 1994. As you can see in the clip below, they were soundchecking their set ahead of the Norwood Fisher Benefit Concert.
One of the first things that comes to mind when watching the clip is just how talented the late Layne Staley was — his voice was unmatched. The second thing that comes to mind is “holy shit, look at those getups.” It’s scary to think kids these days might look at the flannels and weird floppy hats and think “yeah, this is fashion we should bring back…”
Either way, it’s great to see such a great track getting aired out before its big debut. You can check it out in the tweet below.
