Lamb of God’s Mark Morton Reflects on Five Years of Sobriety
Battling an addiction can be a harrowing experience, but when people manage to come out the other side in a better place than they were before, they absolutely should be celebrated for their efforts. And in a reality where far too many metal musicians succumb to their addictions, it’s refreshing to see someone like Lamb of God guitarist Mark Morton not only share his success, but also encourage others to follow in his steps.
His message of solidarity popped up online earlier today, as the 51-year-old axeman tweeted about his experience getting clean after years of alcohol and drug addiction, along with the pride he feels having made it to five years.
“Today, after years of alcoholism & drug addiction, I celebrate 5 years clean & sober.
“If you’re reading this & struggling with addiction, please know that recovery IS possible for you.
“It’s so worth it…I promise.
“You’re worth it.
“Find someone in recovery & ask for help.”
Following his tweet, guitarist Nita Strauss and All That Remains vocalist Phil Labonte offered their congratulations and further support. Both of those musicians have also dealt with their own addictions in the past and can now claim years of sobriety under their belt.
