Militiarie Gun are the Latest Hardcore Band in a Taco Bell Commercial
This news has been floating around the internet for a little bit now, but it’s probably high time we taco bout it. It appears another hardcore band have appeared in a Taco Bell commercial, and as is customary on the internet, people are about to be hating.
Trad-hardcore superstars Militarie Gun‘s song “Do It Faster” was featured in the latest advertisement for the brand, making them followers in the footsteps of Scowl and Turnstile.
The commercial started airing just before the holiday weekend and was played during the Christmas NFL games, drawing a lot of attention to the band.
Prior to this partnership, Scowl partnered with Taco Bell in a similar way, both appearing in a commercial and in an unofficial women’s world cup half-time show put on by the brand. Their track “Opening Night” accompanied an ad for the Grilled Cheese Dipping Taco. Underground music fans were so up in arms about this, they went so far as to call the band’s vocalist, Kat Moss, an industry plant, claims which she promptly refuted with a clapback about how sexist they were.
“I am sick of hearing the phrase “Industry plant. Our friends bands-bands commonly full of men, will sign brand deals, have a song in a commercial, get a co-sign from massively successful musicians, etc… yet I never read whisperings of whether or not they deserve those successes, whether or not they are valid enough, GOOD enough, or worked hard enough to be deserving of that success. Is our success never valid enough for you? Why is this competition created between us and our community, specifically femme-bodied individuals?”
And Moss wasn’t even the first person to go down this route. Even before this partnership, Turnstile’s song “Holiday” played during a holiday Taco Bell commercial for Nacho Fries.
Even if you think these partnerships are lame, suspect, or not whatever the hardcore version of cvlt is, there are a few undeniable facts here: 1) Taco Bell is paying underground artists good money and featuring them in front of millions, maybe even billions, of people, and 2) while it’s rough on your stomach Taco Bell is also undeniably delicious.
