Ghost’s Tobias Forge Says He’s Got “A Few Songs” Brewing for the Next Record
With the long ass world tour now wrapped up and enough time having passed since the 2022 release of Impera, it seems like Ghost mastermind Tobias Forge is gearing up for the band’s next chapter.
During a recent interview with Metal Hammer, the Swede behind Papa Emeritus, the Nameless Ghouls, and the sound that stuck up, un-fun metal elitists love to fucking hate said he’s already working on new material.
While discussing his process for writing new Ghost music, Forge equated what he does to what a chef does, though I suspect the dude was hungry during the interview.
“I like to compare what I’m doing to being a chef. A chef with a few different interests and specialities. So you might start a few different restaurants – an Italian one, a Greek one, an Asian Fusion one. But what they all have in common is the seasoning and the decor and the interior design… the secret sauce. With me, each record, each new cycle, is a new restaurant, but I don’t have to sit with an empty paper and come up with something new every time because the secret sauce is the same. If it comes from my notebook, it will sound like Ghost.”
Forge apparently performed as Papa Emeritus IV for the final time during the band’s October 7 show in Brisbane, Australia. During the show, he admitted in character to fans that no drama was happening that night, but rather that it was simply his final show. That served to be a major departure from how previous Papas have gone out.
Though we know things will be changing within the band moving forward, since we have to get a “new” band leader, fans are speculating we’ll get an in-depth update online through one of the band’s more theatrical YouTube chapter updates. Well, either that or it’ll happen in whatever movie project Forge is cooking up.
