Metal Musicians Rally in Support of Jay Weinberg
Ever since Jay Weinberg issued his own statement about being fired from Slipknot, fellow musicians the world over rallied in support. In fact, a fair amount of major names reacted to or responded to Weinberg’s post to wish him well in his new endeavors.
No stranger to lineup changes, especially having been just reunited with the band he founded, Dream Theater‘s Mike Portnoy attempted to remind Weinberg that his ousting from Slipknot was just a step in his career.
“This is only the end of one chapter…you have MANY MORE to write Bro!! Always have your back”
Colin Young of Twitching Tongues, God’s Hate, and Deadbody also got on the condolences train, opting to remind Weinberg of his talents in the face of what happened.
“One of the few people in the world whose depth of their talent matches the size of their heart. Best drummer in the world, best person to have in your corner. Can’t wait to see what you do next.”
Sepultura‘s Eloy Casagrande also chimed in, himself being the second drummer to attempt to fill Igor Cavalera’s shoes.
“You’re one of the greatest, Jay. It’ll be a pleasure watching your next steps. Much love”
Other prominent names in music, including Lzzy Hale of Halestorm, Ben Weinman of The Dillinger Escape Plan, Joey Castillo of Circle Jerks and The Bronx, and Brian Slagel of Metal Blade Records, all rallied in support as well.
Of course, in the midst of this show of solidarity, it wasn’t all love for Weinberg. Although she has since deleted her comments, Laura Jane Grace mentioned that she felt this abrupt firing was karma.
Regardless of where you fall on Weinberg, it’s pretty evident from this digital outpouring and his former status with Slipknot that if he still has the urge to make music, this won’t be the end of his career.
