Apparently Frank Ocean Digs Loathe

Apparently, pop/hip hop icon Frank Ocean needs his dose of heaviness just like the rest of us. He recently took to social media and shared that he was listening to Loathe.

The photo was shared to his Instagram story and then picked up across socials, including by Odd Future’s fan page, as shown below. The U.K.-based metalcore band have quite a following, but still they’d definitely be considered underground—especially compared to Frank Ocean.

If you’re groaning and rolling your eyes, you may be part of the problem. Sure, some celebs are the scum of the earth, but mainstream musicians are people too, and they’re allowed to have good taste. And a lot of the hate that folks like this get when they share their love of metal and hardcore stems from a tradition of gatekeeping that music from people of color and women.

And Ocean is definitely not the first person to share his love of the underground, although he is more in the mainstream. Last August, Billie Eilish shouted out It Dies Today on Insta, and in April, Nita Strauss told the world that Demi Lovato introduced her to Bodysnatcher. Post Malone is also a big hardcore fan and has been seen at Speed, Drain, and Militarie Gun shows.

For our part, we hope this celebrity shoutout gives Loathe a major bump in sales.
