Papa Roach Donate $150,000 for Suicide Prevention
They may be known for “Last Resort,” but nu metal act Papa Roach are looking to give some people some other alternatives by focusing on suicide prevention. Earlier this week, the band took steps in that direction by donating $150,000 to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP)’s Talk Away The Dark campaign.
The band debuted their newest song about suicide awareness, “Leave A Light On (Talk Away the Dark),” on The Revolution Live tour, where Papa Roach performed alongside Shinedown and Spiritbox. Each city on the tour donated to the cause, and the result was a $150,000 check for charity.
AFSP CEO Bob Gebbia said the contribution was emblematic of the healing power of music for many people going through a particularly difficult time in their life.
“We all have a role in preventing suicide and supporting each another’s mental health. Music has always been a powerful way to spread these messages. That’s why we are so thankful to Papa Roach for making mental health messages a priority throughout their career and most recently with ‘Leave A Light On’ and renaming it after our campaign ‘Talk Away The Dark.’ And their generous donation will support AFSP’s public education, programs for survivors of loss, research, and advocacy work, that is essential to saving lives.”
The band officially renamed the aforementioned song as “Leave A Light On (Talk Away The Dark)” and pledged a perpetual royalty from the song’s use to help AFSP to continue their mission. Papa Roach vocalist Jacoby Shaddix said he and his bandmates were focused on helping combat the pain caused by suicide in all communities.
“This issue doesn’t just affect one of us, or a few of us, it affects all of us. We’re proud to work alongside the AFSP to support their mission to bring hope to those affected by suicide, and proud that this song—which has been special to us since it was first written—can play a part in bringing a little more light to an incredibly important topic.”
