Satyricon Have a New Album and Concert in the Works for Next Year
Next year is shaping up to be a big one for fans of the Norwegian black metal duo Satyricon, as they’re not only planning release their first new album in seven years, but they’ve also got machinations in place for their first show since 2019.
This news came about from a recent Instagram post, in which the band outlined exactly what it has in store. According to the post, their new, as of unnamed album, will be released next May if everything goes according to plan.
“We are pleased to confirm that we will return to the stage for the first time in five years in the summer of 2024. We will be focusing on the European festival run and have no touring plans outside of that currently. At the moment, we are working on a new album scheduled for a May 2024 release.
“The art exhibition and album Satyricon & Munch, was an intense and all-consuming project for the record books, but it is history now and we have been working on all these new things behind closed doors for almost a year. We’re delighted to soon share it.
“We really look forward to playing both brand new and old songs for you, and once again being able to hear you sing, scream and chant as the army you are. We will publish all dates once they have been confirmed and approved to publish. This will be great!”
Now, when we say it will be their first album in seven years, we’re obviously not accounting for the aforementioned Satyricon & Munch, which came out in 2022. That’s because that particular release was a collaborative effort with the Munch Museum in Oslo. If you count solely Satyricon releases, then their last full-fledged output was 2017’s Deep Calleth Upon Deep.
As for their planned shows, it should be exciting for anyone planning on attending one or more European festivals next year to know you’ve got a good chance of catching Satyricon live. We don’t know exactly what festivals they’re planning to hit, but if I were a betting man, I’d say the big ones will be a good place to start. I know, big stretch there…
