KK’s Priest’s Latest Single “Reap The Whirlwind” is Old School Heavy Metal by the Numbers
The song title may sound like something you’d say before ripping a hellacious fart, but KK’s Priest‘s latest single “Reap The Whirlwind” is a classic heavy metal track through and through. Which is honestly to be expected, given K.K. Downing‘s style for the last few decades.
Unlike their previous single “One More Shot At Glory,” which really felt like a cynical take on a classic Judas Priest song, “Reap The Whirlwind” sounds familiar, yet new. It’s something original that could help propel the band’s upcoming sophomore album The Sinner Rides Again into its release this September.
Speaking about the single, Downing said the track was based on a sort of mantra he’s carried with him since he was a youth. Given he’s now 71 years old, that’s a long time.
“’If you sow the wind, you will reap the whirlwind’ – this is a common phrase that has been familiar with me from a very young age. Obviously it’s very meaningful – it’s a warning that if you mistreat people, or really whatever you do in life, you need to be very careful, because whatever sufferance you inflict on anyone, it could come back to haunt you, and your suffering could be even more severe. Everyone knowingly or unknowingly has made the mistake of thinking they can get away with small misdemeanors to suit their selfish pursuits, but if justice is to be served, you will reap exactly what you sow. That is the message of this song.”
