Scar Symmetry’s Latest Single “Xenotaph” Utilizes a 233 Person Choir of the Band’s Fans, Friends, and Family

Last month, melodic death metal act Scar Symmetry released their long-awaited The Singularity (Phase II – Xenotaph) via Nuclear Blast Records. It was their first new release in nine years and it generally received positive reviews from fans and critics alike.

Today, with their upcoming perforamnce at John Smith Open Air marking the next set of live dates in support of the album, the band released yet another single and accompanying music video for “Xenotaph,” which you can check out below.

Perhaps one of the coolest parts of the song is the fact that it features a 233 person choir comprised of “fans, friends, and family from all over the world,” with each person getting multiple vocal tracks. The end result is a song that has thousands of vocal tracks in the mix.

According to guitarist Per Nilsson, the song is the album closer, but leaves things wide open for the band to revisit the story line moving forward.

“‘Xenotaph’ concludes Phase II in an open-ended way, leaving the listener on a bit of a cliffhanger musically as well as lyrically. We felt strongly that ‘Xenotaph’ deserved its own music video, to bring closure to this second part of our Singularity saga and showcase the song to the fullest, and put the spotlight on our amazing, crowd-sourced choir – it is definitely not the last time we will call upon our fans to sing with us!”
