‘The ’80s Metal Dream’ Documentary to Debut July 18, Featuring Skid Row, Twisted Sister and More
A new documentary covering heavy metal’s golden ’80s era will debut on Paramount Plus on July 18. Featuring interviews with members of Skid Row, Twisted Sister, Winger, Vixen, The Scream and more, I Wanna Rock: The ’80s Metal Dream follows their trajectory as they chased fame and dealt with entities like the Parents Music Resource Center.
Reads the official blurb: “Five young dreamers chasing stardom in the cutthroat world of 80s metal. Some will succeed, some will fail, but each will make you see an entirely new side of the metal genre.”
You can also check out the official episode descriptions below:
Ep 101 – “I Wanna Be Somebody” – As ’80s metal sweeps America, five rockers set out to make it in the world of hair spray and spandex.
Ep 102 – “Headed For Heartbreak” – Metal has been taken to new heights. As our rockers become stars, they battle personal demons, sexism – and even Congress.
Ep 103 – “Smells Like Change” – From country to grunge, the world’s taste in music is changing, and every metal musician is fighting for survival. Some will make it, some won’t … but all will be changed forever.
The docuseries was produced by MTV Entertainment Studios alongside production company Gunpowder & Sky. The show features a lengthy list of executive and normal producers and will debut in the United States and Canada on July 18. It will air the next day in the U.K. and Australia, and other international markets will come later this summer.
You can watch the official trailer below. To be honest, the whole thing looks kind of generic and like a reality TV show made for streaming in 2023, but we’re getting an MTV-produced series that features Vixen and Winger, so maybe I shouldn’t complain.
