In Flames’ Anders Fridén Ain’t Quitting Any Time Soon
There comes a time in every metal musician’s career where they wonder if their time is up and they should just ride off into the sunset — unless you’re Mötley Crüe, that is. When that time comes depends on a whole slew of factors, but it comes for everyone. But for In Flames frontman Anders Fridén, that day isn’t coming for a long time.
While speaking with Graspop Metal Meeting (as transcribed by Blabbermouth), the Swedish vocalist was asked about whether he can see a time when he puts the mic down and stops touring all together. The simple answer? Not any time soon.
“I realize it will happen at one point, but as long as you feel like this is the greatest job or thing you can ever do, there’s no reason to quit. I will continue until the wheels fall off in a way, or I wake up one day and say, ‘Hmm, I rather wanna do something else.’ But there’s nothing I can think of. I love this. I love the meeting between us as a band, bringing our music around the world and seeing the fans and meeting them, and you have that connection. And it’s the greatest feeling in the whole world. So, until that changes, then [I will continue doing this].”
The question certainly makes sense when you consider the fact that Bryce Paul, In Flames’ bassist of the last few years, quit the band to spend more time with his family. While the band was able to recover from the loss by bringing in ex-Dillinger Escape Plan bassist Liam Wilson to fill-in for their tour dates this summer, it’s sure to have had some other members of the band wonder when it would be their time to hang it up and spend more time with their loved ones.
