Linkin Park Rocketed to the Top Ten of the Billboard 200 with Meteora Re-Release
Earlier this month, the world got smacked in the face with a brick of nostalgia as Linkin Park‘s Meteora was re-released for its 20th anniversary. Prior to its April 7 release, the previously unreleased singles absolutely blew up on streaming platforms. It seemed people were geared up for more Linkin Park, even if it’s the 2003 version of the band.
Well, it turns out the insane popularity of that already multi-platinum album translated directly into success for the re-release, as it recently debuted at the No. 8 spot on the Billboard Top 200 chart. And it did so by reaching 38,500 equivalent album sales.
According to The PRP, those sales figures actually include 19,500 actual album sales and 17,000 equivalent st reaming album units, which equates to approximately 23.65 million streams of songs from the album.
All of that is absolutely bonkers when you consider the fact that this specific package is crammed to the gills with nearly 90 songs totaling more than five hours of content, including unreleased songs, b-sides, demos, and live shows.
Who knows if this type of success will lead to other artists releasing special re-releases of their own. Maybe a 25th anniversary of Powerman 5000’s Tonight The Stars Revolt in a couple years? Or a 25th anniversary of Limp Bizkit’s Significant Other could happen? I’m sure Fred Durst has tons of unfinished bullshit from that era just waiting to see the light of day.
