Graphic Novel Based on The Dillinger Escape Plan’s One Of Us Is The Killer Announced

Comic book nerds and fans of The Dillinger Escape Plan will have something to be equally excited about in the coming months, as it was announced that the band would be getting a graphic novel inspired by their ridiculously good 2013 album One Of Us Is The Killer.

Announced by Sumerian Comics, the graphic novel in question will be written by Sam Romesburg and Ben Roberts, with art by Greg Di Angilla and colored by Warnia Sahadewa. The comic’s original story is based largely on the album’s title, with references from the album peppered throughout the book. And while the album’s title may sound like it’s more about a single relationship, Romesburg and Roberts said they were more interested in making it about the relationship between a government and its people.

The story can be summarized as follows:

A string of assassinations made by a politically-motivated killer known only to the public as The Quill serves as the spark to ignite a full scale revolution. Set in a technologically advanced American City in the not too distant future, Vertical Integration Corp. has seized all means of production and capital available, creating a financial synergy unlike any that has ever existed. Employees work and live in this living city-sized factory supporting the lives of the ruling business class while subjected to living in tenements. The Quill is the never-seen but oft spoken hero of the lower-class.

Ex-The Dillinger Escape Plan and current Suicidal Tendences guitarist Ben Weinman said he was excited for the graphic novel to make its way into the hands of fans everywhere.

The One of Us Is the Killer collaboration with Sumerian Records remains one of The D.E.P’s most artistically ambitious achievements to this day. Seeing Ash Avildsen and the creative team at the newly founded Sumerian Comics, use this album as the influence for another equally ambitious artistic endeavor is amazing. I can’t wait to hold one of these things in my hands, just like I did with the many comic books I enjoyed as a kid.

Limited 22-page preview copies of the D.E.P. comic will be available at WonderCon this weekend in Anaheim, California. To commemorate the moment, Weinman will be at the convention this Sunday to sign copies starting at 1 p.m. PST.
