Ville Valo Says a HIM Reunion Isn’t Happening: “It Would Be Risky to Try It Again”
Despite the fact that his band, HIM, hung it up more than five years ago now, singer Ville Valo has frequently discussed the possibility of reunion shows or what it would take to get the band back together. In a new interview with Česká Televize, Valo spoke positively about the time he spent with the band and said a reunion isn’t happening… unless something worth it comes along.
“It would have to be for a good reason. There would have to be some new music or whatever.
“Just playing the old songs wouldn’t make any sense. Maybe one day. But I said… I felt that that’s done and dusted with.
“It was a good part of my life, and it was a great that we ended it. And it would be risky to try it again.”
Last month, Valo talked about how HIM broke up instead of going down the “Metallica road.” At the time, he seemed content with the band’s defunct state.
“It took quite a long time for us to realize that the story of HIM had ended. After Tears On Tape, Gas [Lipstick, a.k.a. Mika Kristian Karppinen], the drummer, left the band. Then we found a new guy. We toured a bit. We tried to get everything to work. But it just didn’t sound as good as we wanted to. I think that we lost the spark, so to speak. And we tried to be adult about it and realized that maybe it’s just not our time, because you couldn’t blame us for not trying. We really tried to figure out… We didn’t go to any therapy sessions — we didn’t go down the Metallica road — but we sat down long and hard and tried to figure out if there’s anything we could give the world musically and decided that it’s the perfect time to end it.”
Valo is on tour promoting his debut solo album right now.
