Iron Maiden, Soundgarden and Rage Against the Machine Nominated for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Awards are bullshit and corporate interests don’t represent the true spirit of heavy and extreme metal… until they nominate an artist I like! The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced the nominees its class of 2023 and, as usual, heavy music received a few nods. British New Wave of Heavy Metal trailblazers Iron Maiden, grunge titans Soundgarden and rap-metal anomalies Rage Against the Machine were all nominated for possible induction into the class of 2023.
Winners will be announced in May and there’s an induction ceremony that takes place in the fall. Rage Against the Machine have already been nominated four times previously, so hopefully nomination number five earns them their much-deserved flowers.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation chairman John Sykes offered a comment on the nominees:
“This remarkable list of Nominees reflects the diverse artists and music that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame honors and celebrates. These artists have created their own sounds that have impacted generations and influenced countless others that have followed in their footsteps.”

Last year, Judas Priest were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They reunited with classic guitarist K.K. Downing at their performance, after which Rob Halford said:
“It’s wonderful. You hear stories about bands that have their differences and then coming together for special events like the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, and it’s as though it was always there; it’s as though the time element of who we’re about and what we do in music ceases to exist. Much like when I returned to Priest after my 10- or 12-year hiatus, you just carry on. You carry on because the music carries you in the essence of carrying on. It’s all about the music. And so when we fired up those classic songs together, it just felt great; it felt complete in the sense of what we were trying to achieve that particular night. And it roared.”
