According to a post made on Facebook by his brother, Mark Grimmett, Grim Reaper singer Steve Grimmett has died. He was 62 years old.
“I don’t really know where to start so I guess I will just come right out with it. It is with great sadness and a very heavy heart that I have to tell you all as many of you know him my very talented brother Steve Grimmett very sadly passed away today, my heart goes out to Millie his wife my Mum and Dad, Russell , Sami and Ethan . I will miss you more than words will ever say , love you bro xx”
The late Grimmett’s son Russ also confirmed the death via a Facebook post, saying:
“We can’t begin to put into words the current feelings. But as dad was so well known the news is starting to reach out earlier than we would have liked. Unfortunately, our dad passed away today and leaves a massive hole in the world and our hearts. We are utterly heartbroken. Sleep tight dad. We we always love you xxx”
In 2017, Grimmett had his right leg amputated after an infection spread to the bone. He remained upbeat throughout the process and got fitted with the single most-metal prosthetic limb of all time.
Grimmett rose to prominence as the lead singer of Grim Reaper, who released their debut album, See You in Hell, in 1983 during the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. They released two more album, Fear No Evil and Rock You to Hell, in 1985 and 1987.
Grim Reaper disbanded in 1989 and Grimmett sang with various bands including Onslaught, Lionheart and a solo project through which he released one album, Personal Crisis. In 2006, he reactivated the band under the name Steve Grimmett’s Grim Reaper. That iteration of Grim Reaper released two albums, Walking in the Shadows and At the Gates. They released a live record, Reaping the Whirlwind, earlier this year.
