Hellfest’s Giant Lemmy Statue Contains His Ashes

0

Yesterday, we posted about how this year’s Hellfest Open Air festival features a giant metal statue of Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister. Now, it’s been revealed that some of Lemmy’s earthly remains have been enshrined within the statue.

According to a press release from Motörhead’s team, a portion of Lemmy’s ashes are part of the new enormous statue of Lemmy that stands over this year’s festival, thus making it a yearly memorial to the infamous speed metal legend. Not only that, but there will apparently also be a Lemmy ceremony to go down this Thursday, June 23rd, involving the band’s remaining members:

“After the Scorpions close the show, band mates Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee will say a few words, a tribute video to Lemmy will play and Phil and Mikkey will raise a toast to the immortal and eternally popular Kilmister at the monument itself. The ceremony formally recognizes Lemmy’s love of both the road and the fans, which is where he always felt most comfortable.”

Keep your eyes peeled for more information about this ceremony, which, knowing the Motörhead team, will probably be livestreamed somewhere online.

The new sculpture of Lemmy was created by rising French sculptor Caroline Brisset, who’s work has been exhibited in. bothFrance and Belgium. She told Ouest-France, “I said yes because it was a great project. And it was also quite a challenge to make such a big statue in such a short time.”
