Trailer: The New Predator Movie Looks F***ing Dope

0

While it hasn’t always crushed at the box office, the Predator franchise has actually been pretty amazing. Sure, there have been some bum steers since Arnold took the bug-faced Yautja down in the 1987 original — the Alien vs. Predator films missed some great opportunities — but 2010’s Predators was surprisingly rad, and 2018’s The Predator had some really sick moments to it. Now, the first trailer for the newest film in the franchise, Prey, has been released, and holy shit, it looks cool.

As you’ll see in the trailer below, Prey takes the viewer out of the modern world, and instead introduces us to the franchise’s infamous hunters battling Native warriors. Here’s the official synopsis:

Set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, “Prey” is the story of a young woman, Naru, a fierce and highly skilled warrior. She has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains, so when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.

Okay, HOW DID THIS STORY NOT GET TOLD BEFORE NOW? It’s sort of mindblowing that everyone’s been focused on the Predator fighting humankind’s modern battle tech and not hunting humans back when humans knew how to fucking hunt. Of course, we also know exactly how this story went untold — a writer came to a producer and pitched it, and the dude shook his head, waved his hand, and said some ignorant-ass shit like, “No one wants to see Predators and Indians. Hard pass.” And hey, maybe they’ll disappoint us yet — maybe Naru falls in love with some noble-minded white settler — but as of now, this looks super promising.

Check out the trailer below. Prey comes out August 5th on YouTube.
