Slash Says He Still Gets Self-Conscious Playing In Guitar Stores

0

No matter how old or experienced we might be in this world, some things will always bug us on a deep, personal level, that almost feels like a childhood thing. Even the most unfuckwithable celebrity or artist will be self-conscious about certain little things. Case in point, legendary guitarist Slash has admitted that to this day, he gets self-conscious about playing instruments in guitar stores.

Speaking to Guitar World, Slash discussed his early days of working in a guitar store. And while countless dudes would come in and show off how well they could wail on a guitar they couldn’t afford, Slash was the opposite:

“All these guys used to come in while I’d be working, pick up guitars and play their latest Randy Rhoads stuff for two hours, just sitting on an amp. It was crazy. I was never that guy.

“[I] never liked playing in front of people in a store. So when I did go to a store, I was always looking for something specific. Then I’d tinker with it for a second and put it down, because I felt very self-conscious if anybody was there. I’m still like that.”

D’AW, SLAAAASH! In all seriousness, we’re not surprised, if only because Slash has always been very human in interviews in the past, and we can see him feeling like that kid who’s just happy to be here inside to this day.

The dude goes on to say that although he has a collection of some 400-odd guitars, he rarely goes and buys one just to have it:

“It has to be something I’ll actually use.I do have a couple of guitars that are outside of my normal thing that you’re used to seeing me with, but I find that they only interest me for a second, because they sound like ‘that’.

“Whatever it is they are, that is what they sound like. Which is not really what I’m going for. I’m trying to sound like me. So I end up not buying anything too crazy.”

The sensible guitar god — not something we deal with every day.
