Overkill Guitarist Dave Linsk Bows Out of U.S. Tour Over “Personal Issues,” Phil Demmel Steps In

Back in December, verdant thrashers Overkill announced a U.S. tour with Prong to kick off in March of ’22. Unfortunately, it now appears that, as reported by our slam pigs over at Metal Injection, Overkill guitarist Dave Linsk will be sitting out of the tour for “personal issues.” The good news is that the band already have a replacement in former Machine Head and current Vio-Lence guitarist Phil Demmel, and the tour will go on as planned.

Says Overkill frontman Bobby Blitz:

“We’ve used Phil in the past when we’ve had issues. We’re prepared. We’re ready. It’s not about the strength of the individual but about the strength of the unit. We found that out with Phil when he stepped in.

“It’s just nice to be able to do what you do whether you’re the concertgoer or whether you’re the concert performer. Let’s get back to normal. Let’s do what we do best. Let’s have a little bit of fun.”

More than anything, we’re just curious about the “personal issues” that Dave is going through. Usually that term is reserved for when a bandmate has issues with the band itself, rather than with, say, one’s health or family. Then again, we have no proof that that’s the case, we’re just going off of what we think of when we hear that term, so maybe we’re just stabbing in the dark here.
