Google Says Fred Durst is Robert Durst’s Son
The metal internet had a bit of a laugh earlier this week at the death of Robert Durst, the former real estate tycoon who gruesomely murdered three people (including an ex-wife he abused) and lived on the lam for decades, at the expense of Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst. While a few confused folks took to social networks to lament the death of the man who sang “Nookie,” most sarcastically poked fun at the similarity between the names of two oft-reviled public figures:
But those folks who did earnestly confuse the two Dursts, who have no familial relation to one another, could be forgiven: Google, the most popular search engine in the English-speaking world by so much it’s not even worth comparing, claims in no uncertain terms that Robert is Fred’s father.
Take a look for yourself. Just type “fred durst dad” into Google and this is what pops up:
Adding even more confusion to the situation is that Limp Bizkit’s latest single, released last summer, is called “Dad Vibes.” And when the band debuted it live Durst sported a very dad-like outfit (pictured above), complete with a gray wig that makes him look closer in age to the 78-year-old Robert.
Alarmingly, the Associated Press — a long-standing bastion of neutral journalism and fact-checking, syndicated across hundreds of publications nationwide — made a similar mistake back in 2015 when Robert Durst was finally tracked down and arrested in New Orleans, saying that “an arrest warrant was issued for the former Limp Bizkit frontman.”
The moral of the story is this: never trust the internet. And never trust a Durst.
