Best Christmas Mash-up Ever of the Day #1: Metallica Meets Trans-Siberian Orchestra on “For Carol the Bell Tolls”
Hey did y’all know it’s almost Christmas? I completely forgot. Weird no one has mentioned it yet this year.
ANYWAY, to get into the spirit of the season, DJ Cummerbund, one of our most favoritest interwebs mash-up makers, has smushed together Metallica’s “For Whom the Bell Tolls” and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s take on “Carol of the Bells” (fun fact: this Jewish blogger never actually knew the name of the this piece of music until just now, and figured it out by Googling “merry merry merry Christmas”).
There’s also some Les Misérables and The Nanny in there, and Mr. Cummerbund himself makes a cameo in the video, playing a shofar, which, of course, delights me. “Macho Man” Randy Savage also shows up, as he does in all DJ Cummerbund cummerbunds.
And as a star on top of the tree, the video is cut largely to footage of the 2005 horror-comedy Santa’s Slay, starring the pro-wrestler Goldberg and The Godfather‘s James Caan, the later of whom declined an on-screen credit for some reason. The best part is Saul Rubinek getting killed with a menorah, because the menorah is clearly a cheap prop (there’s no place to put the goddamn candles!).
