Inge Ginsberg, Holocaust Survivor Who Found Catharsis in Metal, Dead at 99

Inge Ginsberg, the Holocaust survivor who spent the last years of her life writing, recording, and performing metal with her band Inge and the TritoneKings, has died at the age of 99.

Bandmate Pedro da Silva tells The New York Times that the cause of death was heart failure.

The Austrian-born Ms. Ginsberg largely came to the attention of the metal community in 2018, as the subject of a highly entertaining and deeply moving short documentary directed by Leah Galant.

A true badass who twice as metal as most of us will ever be, Ms. Ginsberg not only fled the Nazis during World War II, but also helped pass messages between Italian resistance fighters and the American O.S.S. (which would later evolve into the C.I.A.) while living in a Swiss refugee camp.
