Intronaut Drummer Tests Positive for Covid-19, Band Drops Off Psycho Las Vegas

0

Intronaut drummer Matt Lynch (also of Cynic) has tested positive for Covid-19, forcing the band to drop off the Psycho Las Vegas festival scheduled for this coming weekend and an additional show in San Diego with High On Fire. The band did not publicly reveal whether Lynch is vaccinated or not.

In a statement announcing the cancelations, the band added that they are “working on finishing a new record,” which would be the follow-up to Fluid Existential Inversions, released in 2020.

Intronaut join the growing list of bands dropping off Psycho Las Vegas due to Covid-related reasons. A slew of European bands, including Emperor, Mayhem, Satyricon and Watain, were unable to travel given continued restrictions imposed by the U.S. to help stem the spread of the virus. The Skull revealed yesterday they couldn’t make it either because singer Eric Wagner has Covid-19 pneumonia. And Red Fang have dropped off as well, although they didn’t give a reason.

Lynch’s diagnosis comes just as a myriad of artists have all been forced to postpone or outright cancel shows or entire tours after a member of the band or their crew tested positive for Covid. These incldues Korn, the Foo FightersBuckcherryLimp Bizkit, Wolfgang Van Halen’s Mammoth WVH, Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson, and Pop Evil.

This is what metal festivals and tours are going to be like for the immediate future: lots of moving pieces with the possibility of outright cancelation right up until they begin. Get used to it.

Intronaut’s statement reads in full:

“Unfortunately our drummer Matt tested positive for Covid shortly before his scheduled trip out to LA to rehearse for our upcoming shows, which naturally means we had to cancel our sets at Psycho LV and in San Diego with High On Fire. To say we are disappointed is a giant understatement, and we are sorry to anyone who was looking forward to seeing us. We were looking forward to it too. But both shows are still surely going to be incredible and we hope you all have a great time. In the meantime we are working on finishing a new record, and hope to see you soon.”

We wish Lynch a speedy recovery from Covid-19 so he can get back to finishing up the band’s next album ASAP.
