Dani Filth and Ed Sheeran Have Been Discussing a Collaboration
Last month, Ed Sheeran, presumably concerned that being an adult ginger who writes prom songs didn’t make him icky enough, professed to be a longtime fan of “death metal” bands like Cradle of Filth and Slipknot.
And maybe you thought that was the first and last time we’d ever hear about it. But because the Mayan calendar was apparently off by about a decade, and because Dani Filth will literally do anything now, no matter how embarrassing — be it guest on a Juggalocore song, appear in a Z-grade horror movie, or submit himself to the foolishness of some stupid website — the Cradle of Filth singer says he’s been e-mailing with Sheeran about a possible collaboration.
Filth tells Kerrang! Radio:
“I’ve actually been e-mailing with [Sheeran]… He actually touched base with me. I’ve been invited up to his place. Well, he said he could come down to mine, but I pointed out to him that I don’t own my own bar or village, and it’d be better if I went there.
“He said he’d do anything. Quite literally. He said he’s a massive fan. He seems like a genuinely very nice guy actually.”
If Ed Sheeran e-mailed me and said he’d do anything, I’d said him to Ted Nugent’s house armed with nothing but a “MEAT IS MURDER” t-shirt and his wits. Just one of the many ways Dani Filth and I differ.
To his credit, Filth went on to say that he’d like to do the Sheeran thing for charity, so at least, in theory, someone would benefit.
Also to Filth’s credit, it’s now apparent that Filth doesn’t understand the level of noise pollution for which he is sometimes responsible. Speaking about the aforementioned Juggalo team-up, Filth said:
“I did this rap song with this band called Twizted in America. It’s actually turned out more like Rammstein and Beastie Boys than full-on rap.”
I can’t tell if Filth is taking the piss, is in denial or about what evil he hath wrought, or has never actually heard Rammstein and/or Beastie Boys. I just know that if he legitimately believes in his heart of hearts that this sounds like an amalgamation of those two acts, whatever he makes with Sheeran is gonna end up being the thing that finally breaks my spirit once and for all.
