Louder Than Life, Aftershock and Inkcarceration Festivals to Require Proof of Vaccination or Negative COVID-19 Tests

In a perfectly sensible move sure be controversial among the woefully miseducated and sincerely insane, three major upcoming festivals produced by Danny Wimmer Presents — Louder Than Life, Aftershock, and Inkcarceration — will now require all attendees to either provide proof vaccination or a negative, professionally-administered COVID test (antigen or PCR) taken within 72-hours of the first festival day they’re attending. Additionally, masks will be required for all indoor spaces, regardless of vaccination status.

Wimmer himself made the announcement on the social media accounts for the three festivals:

“We are at an unprecedented crossroads with uncertainty about whether or not our festivals will happen this Fall.  It is not my nature to idly sit back and let others decide our fate.  Instead, I am going to do everything in my power to ensure that our festivals happen, even if that means enacting policies that some people may not agree with.  But before you react negatively to our policy, please consider this.  What I see is that the fans feel the world needs music festivals now more than ever.  We need to bring people back together to heal from the past 18 months.  We need to get the people and artists whose livelihoods depend on live events back to work.  I am confident that these requirements are what is needed to guarantee that we have fun and safe festivals this Fall.”

Fortunately, neither Madball nor Chelsea Grin are scheduled to appear at any of these events. So. PHEW!

The move comes just as COVID levels are spiking again due to the transmissible Delta variant and the truly bonkers amount of people who won’t get vaccinated. Several big tours have already been postponed (again) to 2022 or called off altogether. So this is really the only way Wimmer and other promoters can stage events without risking a lot of lives, to say nothing of putting us in a place where live music has to go away again just as it was coming back.
