“Sweet Child O’ Mine” by Guns N’ Roses Passes 1 Billion Spotify Streams
“Sweet Child O’ Mine,” the 1987 Guns N’ Roses megahit ballad that Slash didn’t even wanna include on Appetite for Destruction, has surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify.
It hit the same landmark on YouTube less than two years ago, and was, at least at that time, the only video from the 1980s to have done so. It’s currently up to 1.2 billion views, not counting the 112 million views an alternate (albeit still official) version of the video has received as well.
“Sweet Child” was also the basis for a recent Guns N’ Roses children’s book, which I swear is a really real thing.
The band’s four next-most-popular songs on Spotify, if you’re curious, are “Welcome to the Jungle” (648 million streams), “Paradise City” (612 million), “November Rain” (535 million), and their cover of Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” (385.5 million).
Last week, the band released “Absurd,” their first new song in thirteen years, and their first new song to feature the Holy Trinity of Axl Rose, Slash, and Duff McKagan in thirty years. To date, that song has racked up 550,239 streams. To put that in perspective, Underoath’s “Hallelujah,” released the same day, has 238,339 streams thus far.
