Megadeth Completes Re-Recording David Ellefson’s Parts for Their New Album
Dave Mustaine has raised his price on Cameo AGAIN. As of this writing, his fee on the platform — which lets fans purchase personalized video messages from celebrities — is up to $350 a pop. That’s a $50 increase from just a few days ago, and the fourth increase overall in the six days since the Megadeth mastermind first joined the service.
And honestly, assuming he does a better job than Vince Neil, that doesn’t seem that bad to me. Like, if you have a bud who fucking LOVES Megadeth, and a few friends all chip in and get said bud a personalized video message from Dave Mustaine for his birthday, that bud would probably be over the moon, and the whole thing still cost less than a ticket to see Kiss from less than 3,000 rows away from the stage.
And now that Mustaine is giving out hot goss as part of his videos? Shit, dude! You can’t say the guy is stiffing his fans.
To wit: Blabbermouth reports that in a recent Mustaine Cameo video (below) that someone named David bought for someone named Tina, Mustaine revealed that ‘Deth have completed re-recording David Ellefson’s bass parts for their new album, which is tentatively titled The Sick, the Dying and the Dead. He also teased a song from that record:
“I hear you’re a big pretty fan of [the Megadeth song] ‘Fatal Illusion’ right now. That’s cool. Actually, we’ve got one song on the new album — it’s called ‘The Dogs of Chernobyl’ — which is very similar to ‘Fatal Illusion’ in aggression. So I hope you like that song when you get the new record. It won’t be long. It’s a matter of finishing the parts when I get home [to Tennessee from vacationing in Florida] today and tomorrow. Our bass parts are all done. And it won’t be long.”
(Incidentally, there really is a problem with stray dogs at Chernobyl. I dunno if the song is gonna use that fact as a metaphor or if it’s really just about poor radioactive puppies.)
Alas, Mustaine didn’t go so far as to say who re-recorded Ellefson’s parts, and whether that person will just be a session player or part of their upcoming tour with Lamb of God or their new permanent bassist or what. Presumably, Mustaine is saving that information for when his price gets up to $400. At least we know it’s not Jason Newsted or Billy Sheehan.
Ellefson was publicly let go from Megadeth on May 24 (but actually sacked on May 14) after videos recorded without his consent showed him masturbating during a video chat with a woman other than his wife. Initial accusations that the woman was underage, that Ellefson “groomed” her and the relationship was not consensual were rebuffed both by Ellefson and the woman herself. In his statement dismissing Ellefson from the group, Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine indicated that there were also unrelated factors involved in his dismissal, citing “an already strained relationship.” Mustaine first announced that Ellefson’s parts for the new Megadeth album would be re-recorded last month.
Ellefson has since filed a police report in Scottsdale, AZ seeking evenge porn charges against the video leaker (not his video partner), whose identity has not been made public.
The Megadeth/Lamb of God tour, which will also feature Trivium and In Flames, commences in August. Here are the dates:
