Sons of Metallica and Stone Temple Pilot Members Launch New Band Blu Weekend

Bassist Tye Trujillo, son of Metallica’s Robert Trujillo, and singer Noah Weiland, son of late Stone Temple Pilots/Velvet Revolver vocalist Scott Weiland, have launched a new band, Blu Weekend.

The two previously played together in Suspect208, whose line-up also included drummer London Hudson, son of Guns N’ Roses/Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash.

After two fairly well-received, extremely Velvet Revolver-ish singles, Suspect208 sacked Weiland, alleging that the vocalist “was heading down a dark path of drug use that got in the way of our friendship as well as the band.” Needless to say, the claim was especially unsettling given that Weiland’s father died of an overdose.

Suspect208 went on to release two more singles with a new singer, Cody Houston, before disbanding in May.

Given that Tye is now working with Noah again, we have to assume the younger Weiland has kicked his habit.

Blu Weekend — which also features guitarist Anthony Laurie and drummer Jackson Morris, both of Primality — made their live debut at the recent iHollywood Film Fest at the Woman’s Club of Hollywood.

Speaking to The Eric Blair show after the performance, Trujillo said:

“I guess we have more of a punk vibe. What we’re gonna play tonight is gonna be more of a punk vibe to it. We’re gonna play a song [called] ‘Shark Attack’, playing one of Noah’s old songs. So it should be pretty fun.”

Weiland added:

“Punk as in just doing what we want, whatever feels right, not caring what other people think, really. I don’t think there’s really a definition of punk. People say punk is ‘this’ or punk is ‘that’ but it’s just whatever you want it to be.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Trujillo discussed his willingness to once again fill in on bass for Korn, whose regular bassist, Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu, who recently announced that he’ll be sitting out the band’s summer tour with Staind in order to deal “with some personal issues that at times have caused me to fall back on some of my bad habits and has caused some tension with the people around me.” Trujillo previously acted as Fieldy’s temporary replace in 2017, when he was just twelve-years-old.

Says Trujillo about possibly rejoining the band:

“I’m ready. I know the songs from a while back, so I have my experience playing. If they’re interested then I’m obviously more than down to go play with them.”
