Slash + Chester Bennington: Hear a Clip of Previously Unreleased Track

Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash invited late Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington into the studio while the legendary guitarist was recording the first album under his solo moniker, eventually released in 2010. The two collaborated on a song called “Crazy” that wouldn’t make it onto the self-titled album — a version of the song with Motörhead’s Lemmy Kilmister called “Captain Alibi” was used instead — but a minute of the Chester version has now found its way onto the internet for the very first time.

Slash told Variety in 2018 that “Linkin Park at the time didn’t allow it to happen,” explaining why he eventually went with the Lemmy cut. The snippet comes to us from Slash producer Big Chris Flores, who reprogrammed the drums and added bass to the track. The full version will reportedly soon be released to benefit 320 Changes Direction, the mental health awareness organization launched by Chester’s widow Talinda Bennington.

“Crazy” was recorded just a few years before Bennington joined Stone Temple Pilots. I bring that up because you can hear Weiland’s influence in the vocal style on this recording… the track’s got a very Velvet Revolver-like feel.
