PROG-METAL GIGANTOSAURUS INTRONAUT TO DROP “THE CHALLENGER” EP THIS WEEK
Like the mighty rumble and grumble of the dreaded monster of Loch Ness, Intronaut is poised to arise again tomorrow with a new offering. The bad news is that The Challenger only contains 3 brand new tracks, but one has to expect that the additional 5 live recordings and 1 remix of old material will be friggity awesome. The entire running time is over 40 minutes (which sounds a-okay to me), and despite a gnawing tapeworm-esque hunger for a new full-length, one ought to consider that given the band’s recent personnel adjustments (new guitar player), this is a perfect final release from Intronaut camp 1.0; can’t fucking wait to see where they’ll go from here.
Perfectly brutal, often merging melodic guitar work with a thunderous blend of deep geometric chugga chugga and undercurrents of subtle dissonance, Intronaut is the band that has made me shart my pants the most in the last year. Each player’s jazzy, schooled chops thankfully serve to enhance the sound – the deft rhythm section provides an octopussian backbone for the epic locomotive riffage. The dense songwriting may require a few listens to fully grasp, but rest assured, there is most definitely reason to this metallic rhyme.
Check out the brand-new title track/opener, “The Challenger”, on Intronaut’s myspace page, and if you’re a Europeen, go see these Los Angelesians tear it up on your side of the pond throughout November.
