Rob Scallon Unveils New Song and Video, “MudHook”
YouTuber Rob Scallon begins an email to MetalSucks by explaining that he “didn’t make much of anything for YouTube in 2020,” citing the tough year we all had. Indeed, 2020 fucking sucked in pretty much every way imaginable, and the last time we shared Scallon’s work was over two years ago (although we typically don’t post every piece of content he releases).
But the master of internet guitaring has returned! And he tells us it “feels good to be back with a high energy metal tune,” this time an original composition called “MudHook.”
The song is full of chunky riffs, a catchy refrain and, indeed, plenty of verve, and features Nick Pierce (Unearth, ex-The Faceless) on drums with a mix from Ryan “Fluff” Bruce. The song arrives with a nifty, trippy video shot, edited and animated by Jake Jarvi, and Scallon says it “ties in with my recent ‘Anchor’ music video in that these songs are two extremes of the [8-string] instrument.”
Check out “Mudhook” below. Scallon’s most recent original album, The Scene is Dead, came out in 2017.
