Corey Taylor Announces Socially-Distanced Spring Solo Tour of the U.S.
Corey Taylor has announced the first big American metal tour since the coronavirus outbreak began last year.
The Slipknot/Stone Sour singer will hit the road for a solo tour starting in May. A press release calls the tour “COVID-19 safe,” assuring fans that the shows will be “socially distanced and following state recommended health guidelines.”
Support on all dates will come from The Cherry Bombs, featuring Taylor’s wife, Alicia Dove.
Taylor tells Rolling Stone:
“We’d been looking for opportunities to play here and there constantly, but it wasn’t until a promoter friend of ours asked us how we would approach a tour with the kinds of safeguards we were interested in that we realized we could put a tour together. We’ll be taking as many precautions as we can: the usual social distancing, pod seating (sectioned off area with an allotted number of people who came together allowed inside), temperature checks, waivers signed at the door, masks in place everywhere but your pod, etc. We’re encouraging everyone to get vaccinated as well before the tour.”
The vocalist goes on to say that he’ll play every night for two hours. The set will not only include tracks from his debut solo album, CMFT, but songs originally by Slipknot and Stone Sour as well. The latter band remains on “indefinite hiatus,” while the former act reportedly has a major “conceptual” project in the works.
Now, I would never dare question Corey Taylor, The Magnificent Messiah of Metal.
But if I were a heretic, I might wonder aloud if enough people will be vaccinated by mid/late May for this to be a good idea. Some of these venues are outdoors. Many are not. And honestly, I don’t think “state recommended health guidelines” are worth a shit in a lot of these places (hello, Texas).
(And yes, the very possibility of going to a show could motivate some people to get vaccinated. But as we’re all aware, strong motivation is not always enough to get a pair of those precious shots.)
But I’m not a philistine so I would never dream of even thinking such thoughts. In all sincerity, I would assume that close to Corey is the safest place in the entire world — surely, his divine aura alone will protect you from infectious diseases, no?
