Metallica Donated $75,000 to Texans Impacted by Winter Storm
Say what you will about Metallica’s latter day musical output or questionable production choices, but there can be no denying that these four men have grown into being proper mensches with extremely generous hearts.
The latest endeavor by Metallica’s own non-profit charity organization, All Within My Hands, saw the band donate $75,000 to help feed those affected by the recent winter storm in Texas and its surrounding southern states which, we likely don’t need to tell you, left millions without power and water due to an extended period of uncharacteristically cold weather. The donation went to Feeding America, an organization dedicated to fighting domestic hunger through a nationwide network of 200 food banks, who will now be tasked with distributing the funds to local food banks.
Since launching All Within My Hands in 2017, Metallica have also donated to help with relief of both Australian and Californian wildfires (twice), community colleges and Covid-19 relief, among other causes.
Metallica said in a statement of their donation to those affected by the winter storm:
“The winter storm that struck Texas last month was beyond anything the state’s residents could imagine preparing for. As temperatures dropped well below freezing and widespread power outages swept the area, families suffered. Grocery chains did the best they could to support their communities, but their supply was hit hard. While temperatures have risen and electricity has been restored in many areas, residents are still very much in the throws of a struggle.
“Texans running low on food are finding empty grocery store shelves. Food pantries are running out of supplies. And the freeze has wiped out substantial portions of the state’s citrus and vegetable crops. As part of our commitment to fighting food insecurity, All Within My Hands has donated $75,000 to Feeding America to be distributed to Texas food banks.”

Metallica recently celebrated the 35th anniversary of Master of Puppets with a performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
The band are currently deep into “some pretty serious writing” for their next album. After first floating the idea of working on new music while under quarantine in April, by June Lars Ulrich had revealed that Metallica were, indeed, in writing mode. James and Rob have both said they’ve been busy working on new songs, too, and Kirk Hammett has trumpeted the fact that he has over 600 song ideas recorded (after infamously losing his cell phone with 300+ ideas prior to the sessions for Hardwired). The band were having some technical issues collaborating over the internet and were looking into doing so in-person in a bubble last they checked in, but that was months ago already, and Lars recently revealed that new material was coming along at a “glacial” pace.
