Rammstein Have Finished a New Album

Like every other band, Rammstein had to cancel their summer 2020 tour plans. Rescheduled dates for 2021 are here, although you shouldn’t be shocked if those end up being re-rescheduled for 2022.

But instead of staying idle, the band took the opportunity to work on new music last year. Last June, drummer Christoph Schneider revealed that the band has been using the forced downtime from the pandemic to work on new material, and then in October the band confirmed they were back at La Fabrique studios, where they recorded their latest album, sharing a video clip of the sessions:

Now, in a new interview with Motor.de, keyboardist Flake Lorenz has revealed the band’s got an entire new album in the can from those sessions. He explained:

“The fact that we couldn’t perform live increased our creativity. We had more time to think of new things and less distraction. As a result, we recorded a record that we hadn’t planned on.”

Even if we allow that Lorenz may have been speaking loosely (as well as a possible translation issue) — let’s say it’s not FULLY recorded, or it has yet to be mixed, for example — it appears we’ll still be getting a new album way quicker than we ordinarily do from Rammstein, who took 10 years between their last release (self-titled in 2019) and the one before it (Liebe ist für alle da), and four years between albums from the one before that (Rosenrot). A 2021 release is entirely possible at this juncture, but even 2022 would be speedy by Rammstein’s standards.
