New Documentary on Late Cynic Drummer Sean Reinert Features Meshuggah, Testament, Megadeth, Etc. Members

The metal world lost a treasured member a year ago yesterday, January 24, when longtime Cynic drummer Sean Reinert unexpectedly passed away, sending quite a shockwave through the metal community. Reinert also performed on Death’s seminal 1991 album, Human.

In honor of the one-year anniversary of Reinert’s passing, filmmaker Philipp Koch of DrumTalk has unveiled a documentary celebrating Sean’s life and legacy. The film, which is an hour long, features notable metal luminaries Gene Hoglan (Testament, Dethklok, etc.), Tomas Haake (Meshuggah), Dirk Verbeuren (Megadeth, ex-Soilwork), Steve Di Giorgio (Testament, Death, etc.), Flo Mounier (Cryptopsy), Lee Harrison (Monstrosity, Malevolent Creation), and Gus Rios (Malevolent Creation, Gruesome) all talking about their appreciation for Sean as both a skinsman and human, and contains plenty of previously unreleased footage of Sean.

Soon after Reinert’s death, his husband, Thomas Synder, shared some details about Sean’s death and said that autopsy results would soon determine his cause of death; the results of that report were never released publicly. Reinert’s request to have his organs donated was denied because of his sexual orientation.

His longtime Cynic bandmate, bassist Sean Malone, also died last year.
