GUITAR HERO: MEGADETH ON THE WAY?

I didn’t buy Guitar Hero: Van Halen because it was a continuation of VH’s ongoing efforts to try and make people forget that Michael Anthony was ever in the band – never mind that Fatty Ding Dongs Van Halen wasn’t even born yet when the band’s best albums were made. That being said, I think modern Metallica is pretty lame, too, and I enjoyed their edition of GH. And I’d be totally down for a Megadeth version of the game, even if, once again, there would be some question of which ‘Deth line-up was portrayed (I assume it would be the current one… is Mustaine cool enough to let Marty Friedman, Dave Ellefson, Nick Menza, et. al. be unlockables?).

And I may get my wish! Metal Insider reports that Mustaine is now gloating about taking meetings with the makers of GH for a Megadeth-themed version of the game… or possibly something more. Via Megadeth.com:

I have recently had two very important high-level meetings with the people from Activision and Neversoft, and we are talking about a lot of things, but a Guitar Hero box set is not as attractive to me and the people from Guitar Hero as the new idea that they offered me, as the creative stuff that we are talking about is over-the-moon!

I just hope that someone doesn’t stand in the way of this happening. I know that there are a lot of really damaging results from our mothership (WEA) having some legal disputes with YouTube and Guitar Hero to name just a few.

Now, to be honest, I’m not sure I see Activision and Neversoft wanting to make a GH: Megadeth game. When you look at the other bands that have gotten their own version of the game – the aforementioned bands and Aerosmith – well, if we’re being honest, they’ve all sold way, way more records that Megadeth have. Which makes me even more skeptical that they might wanna launch a “new idea” with Mustaine and company. It seems much more likely to me that Mustaine would be a character in Guitar Hero the way that Slash, Zakk Wylde, and Tom Morello have been in the past.

But fuck do I know? Maybe all the involved parties think a Megadeth game would sell like blowjobs from Steven Adler on Hollywood Boulevard. I guess we’ll have to wait and see if Mustaine is being truthful or just blowing smoke up his own ass…
