Evergrey Announce New Album and Unveil First Single, “Forever Outsider”

Swedish melodeath masters Evergrey have announced their 12th full-length album, Escape of the Phoenix, and unveiled its first single, “Forever Outsider.”

Guitarist Tom Englund and drummer Jonas Ekdahl began writing the album in January just before Covid-19 changed the world forever, then took advantage of the lockdown to finish up and commit everything to tape. Press copy reads:

“Unlike a typical creative process, which is often interrupted by appointments, travelling and one-off shows, lockdown requirements gave the band much needed time to work unhindered. The result is 11 songs that embody everything Evergrey fans have come to expect, albeit ‘a more metal version of The Atlantic, with songs that are more direct’ according to Englund and producer Jacob Hansen.”
